Questionable To Start: offseason plans

By | February 25, 2015

Whew, what a Superbowl, eh? (Insert inappropriate, non-neutral-toned Patriots fan gloating here) I feel a little guilty that I haven’t posted in a solid month, but I’ve been equally buried in snow and backlogged NFL injuries. If you’ve followed this blog through the 2014 season, you have a pretty good idea of the formula I was working on. Player would get injured, I’d respond with an appropriate return-to-play estimate based on historical comparisons. Even better, some media expert would throw out a ridiculous estimate and I’d troll away as loudly as possible.

Now that the season is over, I have to change directions a bit. I figured it might be nice to give the readers an idea of what I had in store, as well as open up the comments to suggestions for offseason content.

First, and most obvious, I’m going to be breaking down some injury histories as they relate to the NFL draft. I did a bit of that last year, but I hadn’t found my groove yet. Specifically, I’m hoping to compare the injury histories of the current draft class to past players to give an idea of reasonable expectations. In addition, I’ll be trying to really get into the specific injury histories and see what’s what… mostly trying to see if something stands out as suspicious.

Second, I’ll be keeping tabs on all the NFL players that are currently rehabbing, and giving readers a better idea of when those players might be expected back. I was moderately successful with this on a small scale last offseason. Or at least I think I was moderately successful with it… see next paragraph. I attempted this on a larger scale, but had to walk away from it, as it totally sunk my battleship. More on that later if I can get it to stick this time around.

Third, I’ll be going back and evaluating every prediction I made in the last year. I cannot stand when experts are unable to point out their own mistakes, and you’ll never catch me glossing over my own bad calls. I’m curious to see my success rate, though of course judging some of that is going to get rather muddy.

Those are my Big Three. Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to dig into. And please, for the love of Jebus, no more snow.
