I thought about making this case on Sunday, but that seemed a little rash. Thought about it again on Monday, but held back. But enough already, I’m coming out with both barrels blazing now. This is bullshit. Anyone know what I’m talking about? Let me take a deep breath and start from the beginning.
In Sunday’s Bengals game, RB Giovanni Bernard left in the fourth quarter with some sort of hip injury. Nobody really knew what it was, and the team didn’t talk about it. Nothing unusual in that. But, as far as I can tell from the transcripts and from other summaries I’ve seen, not a single reporter asked either the coach or Bernard himself about the injury! Not one question. I thought that was pretty lame.
Then comes a Monday press conference. Again, not a single question about Bernard’s injury. By Tuesday, reporters are reporting on whether they “get the sense,” that’s it’s a serious injury. No joke, look at this gem. Now, here we are, Wednesday night, and still, not a single person has thought to ask anyone in the Bengals organization about Bernard’s injury! He didn’t even practice with the team today, so it’s not like this is a subtle ballet unfolding before us and you’d really need to be tuned in to figure out something is up.
So what gives? Why will nobody ask? Are they afraid to ask the only-slightly-less-than-easy questions? Do reporters have something to lose by simply asking the question? What am I missing here? I must be missing something, right… I mean, nobody can just be just this lazy or bad at their jobs… right?
